Never mind, Newt not violating CNN ethics policies

Newt Gingrich is no longer in violation of CNN's ethics, as the ethics policies at the news channel seem to have changed.

"We are clarifying the policy and making it clear Newt Gingrich is not in violation," Rick Davis, CNN's Executive Vice President of News Standards and Practices, told the liberal Media Matters. "The policy: If a 'Crossfire' co-host has made a financial contribution to a politician who appears on the program or is the focus of the program, disclosure is not required during the show since the co-host's political support is obvious by his or her point of view expressed on the program."

It's true that it's pretty self-evident where Gingrich, or any of the "Crossfire" co-hosts, stands by nature of the show being about their opinions on issues. David had previously told Media Matters, however, that it would be "important" for Gingrich to disclose on-air any political affiliations he might have with guests or topics on the program.

It was reported Wednesday that Gingrich had neglected to disclose his ties to a Super PAC that had donated to Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.). Paul appeared on the show's debut and Cruz's opposition to "Obamacare" was discussed on a separate episode.

This isn't really a big deal. It's just Newt being Newt. And that's always fun to examine.
