NEW YORK (AP) — Lady Gaga has donned more than her share of atypical evening wear in the past. She's worn a dress made of bubbles, a dress made of Kermit the Frog dolls...and who can forget her dress made out of meat?

Now it appears the "Applause" singer is aiming for that great big fashion runway in the sky.

Lady Gaga unveiled a high-tech, white vehicle she bills as the world's first flying dress Sunday. The contraption lifted her up inside a mammoth building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where she held a launch party for her new album "Artpop" which releases worldwide Monday.

The 27-year-old New York entertainer said later that this was "maybe a small step for Volantis" — as she calls her battery-powered metal dress with six booms in a hex formation — but "a big-time step" for Lady Gaga, who says her ultimate goal is to stage the first musical performance from space.

Though given video of Sunday's historic launch shows her lifting only a few feet off the ground, she may want to marshal a more powerful vehicle for taking her into the stratosphere stage. Check out the aeronautics:
