A severely injured dog somehow found herself all alone on a Texas highway Friday morning.
Lying in the HOV lane of Houston's Eastex Freeway, the yellow lab lay there helplessly suffering from internal bleeding and several broken bones.
That's when Rickey Young sprung into action.
After the good samaritan heard of the situation over the radio, he moved in to help.
“I’m just kind of a softy on that stuff,” Young told KENS-TV. “I have a dog and would hate to see him on a highway like that.”
The entire incident was caught on surveillance video and shows the yellow lab initially fearful as Young approaches her.
It turns out, however, it was not a problem food couldn't solve. After baiting her with a sandwich, the yellow lab allows Young to place her in his truck and take her to safety.
“I could see that she was thankful and she was happy to be in a safer environment,” he said.
The yellow lab, not believed to have an owner, underwent immediate surgery at the Houston SPCA for her injuries, according to KENS-TV.
Now, she's on a very different road — a road to recovery.
