A train derailed in Lynchburg, Virginia Wednesday afternoon — and stunning images posted to social media depict the explosive aftermath.
It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries, but WSET-TV reported that emergency crews were evacuating the area surrounding the derailment. The local ABC affiliate also reported that there were no rail cars in the river.
A city official told Reuters that the train was carrying crude oil when some 14 cars derailed. Witnesses told WSET that they heard a loud boom rock the area.
