Former RT Anchor Who Quit Live On-Air Responds to Claims She Is Part of a 'Right Wing Conspiracy

"It was the truth and something I needed to do."

Former Russia Today anchor Liz Wahl is one of very few in her occupation to be filmed quitting her job during a live television broadcast. Perhaps even rarer, she aired a public declaration against her employer before signing off.

After saying she is "proud to be an American" Wahl said she could no longer “be a part of a network that whitewashes the actions of Putin.”

It didn't take long before conspiracy theories began to emerge surrounding the conditions of her resignation. After filling in for TheBlaze TV news anchor Laurie Dhue this week, Wahl appeared on TheBlaze TV's "Wilkow!" Wednesday to put one of the wilder conspiracy theories to rest.

Speaking about the allegation that she is "part of a 'neocon' plot to bring down the Russian government," Wahl laughed and said the rumor "actually started from within RT."

"There were anonymous sources, and a friend of one of the employees at RT wrote the article about me," she said. "...RT, the next day or a couple days later, actually used that article to do this breaking story about 'the truth behind my resignation.' And you know, you don't want to answer because you're like, 'This is so ridiculous. It's not true. It's absurd.'"

Wahl said she wasn't planning on quitting publicly, but that day, RT's coverage on the situation in Ukraine was "pure propaganda, that's the only word to use for it."

"I came on board hoping to make most of it, and all of a sudden I was like, 'What is going on here?' So I said what I said because ... it was the truth, and something I needed to do. It was not a right wing conspiracy."
