New Jersey Surfer Bro Wanted for Sucker Punching a Man in the Face Nabbed by Police in a Rather Unorthodox Arrest

New Jersey police have nabbed a surfing enthusiast wanted for a brutal assault caught on video in New York City — and the arrest was far from routine.

Corey Pohan, 32, wanted for allegedly leaving a man in critical condition after suddenly punching him in the face on the streets of Midtown Manhattan, initially agreed to surrender to detectives after police reportedly tracked him to his mother's New Jersey home.

NYPD detectives were transporting the 32-year-old to a precinct Wednesday afternoon when Pohan, who was not under arrest at the time, apparently decided to change his mind.

According to a press release issued by the New Jersey State Police, the surfer exited the unmarked NYPD car at a toll plaza in an area restricted to pedestrians.

New Jersey police then responded to the scene and located Pohan hiding on the roof of the toll plaza. He was taken into custody and transported to a Newark station.

At the station, troopers learned he was the wanted person out of New York.

Pohan was then charged with criminal trespassing, charged as a fugitive from justice and held on a no-bail warrant pending extradition to New York.

The 32-year-old garnered media attention after a surveillance video appeared to show him and another man, reportedly strangers, walking near the corner of 9th Avenue and West 55th Street on Tuesday evening when he appeared to suddenly turn on the other, punching him in the face.

The 49-year-old victim then fell to the ground as the suspect fled on foot. The victim remains in the hospital, after sustaining swelling on the brain, a contusion and a skull fracture, WABC-TV reported.

According to the local ABC affiliate, the confrontation stemmed from a dispute over the victims dog named Peanut. The victim was walking with a friend when the suspect crossed paths with the victim and stepped over his dog, authorities say. The dog owner then asked why he had stepped over the animal and then pushed the suspect as he walked away, WABC reported.

That's when the suspect punched the victim in the face.

A Facebook page appearing to belong to Pohan details his life as a surfing enthusiast.

"32 years single male never married, six pack sicker then its ever bin, hair more blonde, eyes more green. Living in Manhattan in the summers and travelling the world in the winters," a June Facebook says. "I thank god that I am in the best shape of my life without a wife and so much opportunities for the future. For all my brothers who still have this life style we are so blessed."
