"This illusion called Israel will be removed."

Hamas is cutting no corners in celebrating the 27th anniversary of its founding, with weekend Gaza rallies that included the launching of a drone and a stridently anti-Semitic display.

The Israel Defense Forces scrambled jets to the border with Gaza after Hamas launched a drone during a Sunday rally, but because the unmanned aerial vehicle did not cross the border into Israel, no shots were fired at it, Israeli media reported.

Long-range missiles and fighters reported to be with Hamas’s naval commando unit were also part of the parade, as seen in photos depicting the rally.

"This illusion called Israel will be removed. It will be removed at the hands of the Qassam Brigades [military wing of Hamas]," senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya said according to the Jerusalem Post.

The displaying of long-range weapons and the drone came the same day that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of the dangers of pressuring Israel to withdraw to 1967 borders. Should Hamas take over the West Bank like it did Gaza in 2007, more Israeli communities and its Ben-Gurion International Airport would be easily reachable by Hamas weaponry.

Netanyahu said Sunday that a possible “diplomatic offensive” via the U.N. to force Israel to withdraw to 1967 borders within two years “will lead Islamic extremists to the outskirts of Tel Aviv and the heart of Jerusalem.”

Hamas’s founding charter pledges to destroy Israel and replace it with an Islamic state.

At a separate gathering on Friday, Hamas members burned an effigy depicting a religious Jew along with models of coffins covered with photos of four devout Jews killed in a terrorist attack at a Jerusalem synagogue last month, three of them American citizens.

The Times of Israel reported that the wooden structure seen burning in one of these photos apparently meant to depict the burning of the Jewish Temple on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.

An aerial drone launched by Hamas in July was knocked out of Israeli airspace by an IDF Patriot missile battery. This was the first reported use by Hamas of an unmanned aerial vehicle as a weapon.
