Father of Slain News Reporter Issues Heartbreaking Statement: ‘Not Hearing Her Voice Again Crushes My Soul\

"She lived it to the fullest and her spirit will always be with us."

WDBJ-TV reporter Alison Parker's father released a heartbreaking statement on behalf of her family Wednesday afternoon after she was fatally shot while doing a live broadcast.

"Barbara, Drew, and I are numb, devastated and I find my grief unbearable," Andy Parker said in the statement. "Alison was our bright, shining light and it was cruelly extinguished by yet another crazy person with a gun. She excelled at everything she did and was loved by everyone she touched. She loved us dearly, and we talked to her every single day. Not hearing her voice again crushes my soul. Our family can only take solace in the fact that although her life was brief, she was so happy with it. She lived it to the fullest and her spirit will always be with us."

According to police, Vester Lee Flanagan, known on the air as Bryce Williams, fatally shot the 24-year-old and photographer Adam Ward, 27, during a live segment Wednesday morning. Flanagan eventually shot and killed himself, police said.

The woman who was being interviewed, identified as Vicki Gardner was shot in the back and underwent surgery Wednesday morning. She is in stable condition.
