Conservative Writer Posts Same Tweet as ‘Ghostbusters’ Actress to See If Twitter Has Bias — See What Happened
July 25, 2016
"Twitter gave no explanation."
A conservative writer was briefly banned from Twitter on Monday after posting the exact message — word for word — as a liberal actress who was never punished for her tweet.
Campus Reform contributor Kassy Dillon tweeted to "Ghostbusters" actress Leslie Jones something Jones herself tweeted more than a year ago:
@DolphinToucher and you and your friends are bigots. If you don't like me why the fuck do you watch let alone contact me. Kill yourself bigot

"You and your friends are bigots. If you don't like me why the f*** do you watch let alone contact me. Kill yourself bigot," Jones' March 8, 2015 tweet read.
But Jones' tweet was not removed, and Jones was never banned from using the social media platform. Dillon was suspended, however, for using those very words in a tweet to Jones.
After other users found out, the hashtag "Free Kassy" started trending. Eventually Dillon was allowed back on Twitter.
Guess who is back. Twitter gave no explanation. Thank you to everyone who posted #FreeKassy pic.twitter.com/vkFWXyYzXb

As for the tweet that sparked the online firestorm, Dillon said she deleted it when others didn't catch on that she was imitating Jones.
I deleted some of the tweets after a strong backlash from people who were not aware of Leslie's tweets. Twitter didn't censor me... Yet.

The controversy came just days after Twitter permanently suspended conservative firebrand Milo Yiannopoulos for tweets directed at Jones. The "Ghostbusters" star later announced she was leaving Twitter.
I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie. You can hate the movie but the shit I got today...wrong
