NYPD officer’s antics in a parked police cruiser go viral — and get big reaction

Video featuring a New York City police officer has gone viral — and for all the right reasons.

In the video, which has been viewed more than 8,000 times (and climbing rapidly), an NYPD officer, later identified as Officer Richard Gunther, can be seen using his public address system to sing along with '90s boy band, the Backstreet Boys.

What are the details?

Gunther sang along to one of the popular singing group's biggest hits, "I Want It That Way."

The incident took place Saturday morning in the city's Manhattan area, according to WPIX-TV and the New York Post.

Gunther's partner, Officer Bill Hunz, can be seen sitting in the passenger seat of the cruiser laughing and grinning as pedestrians and motorists alike stop to gawk and take photos and video.

Gunther finishes his performance of the song, and bystanders recording video applauded the officer.

"Thanks everyone!" Gunther can be heard saying. "Have a good day!"

A female bystander can be overheard saying, "That's going viral for sure."

Instagram user Jordan Haskins shared one of the videos, writing, "The NYPD absolutely nailed it today. So cool to see humanity in our law enforcement. A small thing like this can really give you some hope in such uncertain times."

What did the officers say?

Gunther reportedly saw the video online and commented on Haskins' post: "I'm so glad I can entertain everyone. Feels great interacting with the community and seeing all the smile/laughs! You guys are the best!"

A man identifying himself as Hunz also commented on the social media post, writing, "Thanks for the laughs today Rich. No other person I'd rather ride around with all day."
