'Free AR-15 & Turkey': Florida roofing company offers wild promotion with purchase of a new roof

A Florida roofing company has offered a free turkey along with an AR-15 rifle with the purchase of a new roof, which it hopes will bring in added business in the winter months.

Roof EZ president Jason Polly said that the company's “Roof and Gobble” promotion will hopefully bring families together over a theme of protecting their home.

“The turkey will get you all sitting at the table so you can spend time together. The roof will protect your home, and the AR-15 will protect your family,” Polly told NBC2 News in an interview.

After just two days of the promotion, the company had sold eight roofs and received another 50 inquiries about the offer, NBC News reported. Typically, the Cape Coral, Florida, company sells approximately 30-50 roofs per month, while the goal with the promotion is to increase that number to 60-100.

"Everybody should have an AR-15," Polly said. "Everybody should have the means to protect their homes and their family. It’s not really catered to anybody, any state, any political view, anything like that. It’s all about safety."

Lawyers representing Roof EZ assured outlets that the promotion is legal, as the business is working with a local gun store. However, the rifle cannot be picked up by the customer until after the roof is completed. A customer possessing a concealed carry permit reportedly can pick up the gun immediately after; otherwise a three-day wait time and a background check have to happen first.

"You have to go through all the proper channels before you can walk away with a gun," Polly said.

Polly explained that he borrowed the idea after seeing a company in Alabama try a similar promotion and that it is meant to promote constitutional rights while also increasing business.

“I figured, hey, we’re in Florida. This is the most Florida thing you can do. Let’s do it,” Polly continued, according to the New York Post.

"If someone has the means to buy a roof, they have the means to go buy their own firearm,” he went on. "They’re just buying a roof and supporting our Second Amendment right. I support everybody’s First Amendment right. ... They can reciprocate and respect my Second Amendment rights."

The promotion has an approximate value of $500.
