Bronny James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, recovering after suffering cardiac arrest during workout

Bronny James, the elder son of NBA superstar LeBron James, is recovering after suffering cardiac arrest during a workout at the University of Southern California on Monday morning.

At around 9:30 a.m., a 911 call was made from the Galen Center, USC's basketball facility. Bronny, who will begin his freshman year at USC this fall, was there for a workout when he experienced a medical emergency, reports say. He was then reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.

Thankfully, Bronny appears to be recovering from the episode. A statement from a family spokesperson confirmed that the young man, just 18 years old, went into cardiac arrest.

"Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest," the statement said. "Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU.

"We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information," the statement continued. "LeBron and [his wife] Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes."

This is not the only scary incident for members of the USC Trojans men's basketball team recently. Center Vince Iwuchukwu collapsed during practice last summer, but he was able to recover fully and return to the court within six months, the Daily Mail reported.

Bronny, a highly touted recruit based on his name as well as his guard play, opted to stay in the Los Angeles area, where his father, LeBron, plays for the Lakers. In addition to USC, Bronny also had offers from high-profile programs such as Ohio State and Oregon.

LeBron James, 38, recently stated that he wants to stay in the NBA long enough to play alongside his son. "I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny," LeBron told ESPN earlier this year. "I would love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. thing. That would be ideal for sure."

In addition to Bronny, LeBron and Savannah James have another son, Bryce, and a daughter, Zhuri. Bryce James, 16, plays basketball for Sierra Canyon High School, the school from which brother Bronny just graduated.
