Former Rep. Liz Cheney says she's not ruling out a presidential bid

Former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.) told CNN's Jake Tapper that she is not ruling out the possibility of a White House bid.

When Tapper asked Cheney if she would vote for President Joe Biden over former President Donald Trump, Cheney said that she views Trump as the "most dangerous threat we face," but she also noted that she expects there to be other candidates in the contest.

Cheney said that she will work to get "serious" and "sane" people elected to Congress.

"But you're not ruling out a presidential run?" Tapper asked.

"No, I'm not," Cheney responded.

Cheney was among the 10 House Republicans who voted in favor of impeaching then-President Donald Trump in the wake of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. She was later ousted from her post as House Republican Conference chair.

Cheney sought re-election to Congress in 2022, but lost the GOP primary to Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman.

Cheney, who was one of the two GOP lawmakers to sit on the Jan. 6-related House Select Committee, told Tapper that as president, Trump would "unravel the institutions of our democracy."

A description of Cheney's upcoming book, "Oath and Honor," describes the work as "a gripping first-hand account from inside the halls of Congress as Donald Trump and his enablers betrayed the American people and the Constitution–leading to the violent attack on our Capitol on January 6th, 2021—by the House Republican leader who dared to stand up to it."
