MSNBC host praises California for 'gun safety' — forgetting massacre that just happened

"What is it about California that's so good..."

Liberal MSNBC host Chris Matthews lavished praise on California for their extensive regulation of gun rights, while forgetting that the horrible Gilroy massacre had occurred just two weeks prior.

Matthews was interviewing failed Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell of California when he made the tone deaf comments.

"By the way what is it about California that's so good on gun safety?" Matthews asked Swalwell.

"I grew up in Pennsylvania which is deer hunter country obviously," he added.

"Why is it that California," he repeated, "under [Sen.] Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) and people like you, why is it really good on gun safety, California, as a culture?"

Swalwell used the question to push a plan to ban all assault weapons, saying that California was less safe because surrounding states had fewer restrictions on guns.

"And so we need to ban them everywhere, and have background checks everywhere," said Swalwell.

The praising of gun "safety" in California might appear tone deaf to many so soon after 3 were killed and another 13 were injured by a 19-year-old man before he shot and killed himself. The murderer used a rifle that is illegal in California, but was purchased in Nevada.

Swalwell abandoned his presidential campaign after failing to garner any major support with his vocal gun control campaign.
