Pulse-pounding dashcam video shows moment police chase suspect opens fire on cops with AK-47

Three police officers were shot and are lucky that the gunman had terrible aim

Terrifying dashcam video of a police chase suspect spraying gunfire at cops while they were in pursuit has been released to the public. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office in Georgia recently released the chilling footage of the dangerous situation where three police officers were shot and the suspect was killed.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper clocked a vehicle speeding at 111 mph on Interstate 20 in Bremen, Georgia, at 3:30 a.m. on Monday. The officer pulled over the 2015 Nissan Sentra, but the driver sped off as the trooper approached the car. The state trooper went into a high-speed pursuit of the Sentra, and bumped the vehicle to disable it. When the officer attempted to bump the Sentra a second time, a passenger "leaned out of the front passenger window and began firing at the trooper with a rifle," the Georgia Bureau of Investigations said in a news release.

The passenger shot CPS Sgt. Rob Holloway, who lost control of his patrol car and hit a utility pole.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office, the Carrollton Police Department, and the Villa Rica Police Department joined the pursuit near the border of Alabama.

The Sentra reportedly crashed near an elementary school in Villa Rica.

Corporal Jamison Troutt and Deputy Jay Repetto from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office drove up to the cruiser of Villa Rica officer Chase Gordy, who was also shot. As the officers got closer, a man appeared out of the dark woods and suddenly pulled out an AK-47. The man, later identified as Pier Shelton, unleashed a hail of bullets at the officers. Repetto was shot in the arm, and the police cruiser was disabled after being riddled with bullets.

"Corporal Troutt and Deputy Repetto returned fire and stopped the threat in a matter of seconds which allowed first responders to render aide to Officer Gordy who had been shot multiple times," the Carroll County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook. "If not for the heroic efforts of all Officers and agencies involved and to Corporal Troutt and Deputy Repetto for stopping the suspect, this incident could have resulted in more Officers being injured or killed and the suspects could have posed an even bigger threat to the public as this occurred in a residential area."

Pier Shelton, 28, was fatally shot by law enforcement.

The second suspect in the Sentra was identified as Aaron Jajuan Shelton, the shooter's brother. Aaron Shelton was apprehended a short time later, according to law enforcement. The 22-year-old was charged with five counts of aggravated assault and three counts of aggravated battery. He is being held at the Carroll County Jail, and was denied bond by the judge.

Sergeant Rob Holloway, who has been with the department since 2008, was flown to an Atlanta area hospital where he underwent surgery. He is in the ICU, but his condition is improving.

Officers Gordy and Repetto were transported to a hospital in the Atlanta area, and have since been released.

Carroll County Sheriff Terry Langley said the officers are expected to recover, and pointed out that the situation "could have been a lot worse."

"Watching the video, it really sent chills up my spine," Carroll County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Ashley Hulsey told WSB-TV.
