Elected Democrat official comes out against Tim Ryan, endorses JD Vance: 'I won’t be fooled, and neither should you'

An elected Democratic official wrote a scathing essay last week explaining why no Ohioan — including Democrats — should support Democrat Tim Ryan's bid for the U.S. Senate.

What are the details?

Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes wrote in the Cincinnati Enquirer that he is a "proud, lifelong Democrat." But that does not mean he is supporting Ryan over Republican J.D. Vance on Election Day.

In fact, Rhodes said he feels compelled to sound the alarm that "Tim Ryan is a fraud who must be defeated" precisely because of his love for Ohio.

Targeting Ryan's claim that he is not beholden to the Democratic Party, President Joe Biden, or House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Rhodes declared that "I won’t be fooled, and neither should you."

"The narrative Ryan has built around himself is nothing more than shameless deception from a career politician desperate to cling to power," Rhodes explained. "Here’s the truth: Tim Ryan is not who he says he is. He votes in 100% lockstep with Pelosi and Biden in Congress. At every opportunity, he follows the orders of the D.C. establishment."

To back his claims, Rhodes pointed to Ryan's support for the green agenda, far-left criminal justice reform, big-government spending, and even ending the Senate filibuster.

Moreover, Rhodes condemned Ryan for being pro-abortion.

"Tim Ryan stands for one thing, and it isn’t our state. It’s his own political ambition," Rhodes wrote.

"Ryan, like Pelosi, Biden, and far too many other Democrats, have made themselves willing tools of the far-left fringe that’s giving my party a bad name," he said. "Their politics may represent the coastal elite and many liberal cities, but they don’t represent Ohio."

Everything considered, Rhodes said he is voting for Vance.

"In just a few days, I, an elected Democrat, will eagerly vote to make J.D. Vance our next U.S. Senator," he disclosed. "Vance is exactly the kind of man who should serve the Buckeye State in the Senate. I hope you’ll join me in voting for him on Nov. 8."

What do the polls show?

While Ryan led Vance for much of the late summer and early fall, Vance has pulled out to a convincing lead in the polls.

According to the FiveThirtyEight average, Vance now leads Ryan by an average of 5.4% — a significant margin that should translate to an Election Day victory for Vance.
