1 killed, 2 wounded near Eiffel Tower by man reportedly angry over deaths of Muslims and screamed: 'Allah akbar!'

One person was killed and two others were injured on Saturday after a man allegedly committed a knife nd hammer attack near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Multiple reports say after the attack, the man screamed: "Allah akbar!"

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Saturday, "The police have just courageously arrested an assailant attacking passers-by in Paris, around the Quai de Grenelle. One deceased person and one injured person treated by the Paris Fire Brigade. Please avoid the area."

The man used a knife and a hammer during the attack, according to the Daily Mail.

The outlet added, "One victim, a tourist with dual German and Filipino nationality, was slashed in the back and shoulder by the attacker last night. The man, who had not been named, was found in cardiorespiratory arrest before he passed away."

The report said another victim was a British tourist who was walking around Paris with his wife.

A third victim was reportedly injured seriously from being attacked with a hammer by the suspect.

The suspect shouted "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest") before being arrested, according to multiple reports.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the assault near the crime scene as police used a stun gun to subdue the man.

The suspect is reportedly a 26-year-old French national, who was on the French security services watchlist. In 2016, the alleged attacker was sentenced to four years in prison for planning another attack, according to the BBC.

Citing the French interior minister, the New York Times and AFP reported that the suspect suffered from serious psychiatric disorders and told the police he was angry over the death of Muslims in the world – including in Gaza.

France’s national antiterrorism prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the deadly stabbings.

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne vowed, "We will not give in to terrorism. Never."
