Kamala 'Border Czar' Harris accuses GOP governors of 'dereliction of duty' over border crisis — and blames Trump, too

Vice President Kamala Harris accused Republican governors on Monday of a "dereliction of duty" for busing migrants to sanctuary cities.

Wait, seriously?

Yes, the very person whom President Joe Biden appointed to be his "border czar" went on "The Late Show with Seth Meyers" and lodged accusations of negligent leadership.

"Talk about political theatre, playing games with people's lives," Harris charged. "I just think it's an absolute dereliction of duty."

Harris then claimed the Biden administration has attempted to solve the border crisis, which she attributed to decisions made under former President Donald Trump.

"If you see a problem and if we agree that we need to address it, then if you’re a leader, participate in a solution, right? When we first came in office, the first bill that we proposed was for a pathway for citizenship. It was to fix a broken immigration system, which was broken under the previous administration," Harris said.

"Participate in the solution because we are offering solutions," she added.

It remains unclear what solutions the Biden administration is proposing to solve the border crisis. The one proposal that Harris cited, a pathway to citizenship, would not stop the flood of migrants who have been pouring across the border under Biden's watch.

In fact, critics of the Biden administration say the opposite, alleging his policies have incentivized migrants to come to America knowing they will not be deported.

Republican governors, for instance, say they are busing migrants from the front lines of the border crisis because the Biden administration is not sufficiently responding to the flood of migrants overwhelming border cities.

Immigration, after all, is the responsibility of the federal government, and as the crisis rages on, it becomes more clear the government is abdicating that responsibility.

Indeed, the numbers do not lie. In fiscal year 2022, a record number of migrants entered the U.S. — more than 2 million. Unfortunately, there were also a record number of migrant deaths.

Despite being tasked with overseeing the border crisis, Harris has not visited the front lines of the crisis. She did, however, visit El Paso last year, but that city is hundreds of miles away from the Rio Grande Valley, where the majority of migrants are entering the U.S.
