Here's why Trump tweeted a $100K check — and why liberals erupted in anger over it

You would think they'd be grateful?

President Donald Trump tweeted a check made in the amount of $100,000 and garnered much praise from his supporters over it, and a lot of angry bitterness from liberals, too.

The check was made out to Homeland Security, and was a part of the contributions the president said he made of his White House salary back to the government.

"While the press doesn't like writing about it, nor do I need them to, I donate my yearly Presidential salary of $400,000.00 to different agencies throughout the year, this to Homeland Security.

"If I didn't do it there would be hell to pay from the FAKE NEWS MEDIA!" he added, with an image of the check he wrote.

The tweet was immediately assailed by many of his critics, especially on the left.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.), a frequent and vociferous detractor of the president, tweeted his displeasure at the contribution

"Dear @realDonaldTrump: How about this proposal: take your 400k salary, but stop fleecing taxpayers to the tune of $91 million by going to Trump properties?" he asked rhetorically.

"The proposal also has the benefit of following the regulation that says you cannot use your public office for private gain," he added.

Lieu was referring to reports and accusations that the Trump organization was profiting privately by encouraging foreign diplomats to lodge at Trump properties in exchange for favored status by the president.

Others reviled the president over the tweet.

"Which you can do, since you make more of that in your Bribe-Hole hotel just up the block from The People's House," said comedian John Fugelsang.

"For a second there Biff," tweeted Bob Cesca, "I thought that was one of the hush money checks you signed in the Oval Office to illegally pay off a porn star you f***ed right after your trophy wife gave birth to your youngest child. Good luck with #SDNY, by the way."

"Ask them to spend that money going after white supremacists, the number one domestic terror threat in America. Thanks," tweeted New York Times contributor Wajahat Ali.
