VIDEO: Homeless man tries to kidnap baby out of mother's arms during allegedly violent crime spree in St. Louis

Security video captured the moment a homeless man tried to steal a baby out of the arms of a woman after he had allegedly committed several other violent crimes in St. Louis, Missouri.

The video from 9 a.m. Sunday morning shows a couple walking down the street when a man attacks the woman and tries to take her 11-month-old child from her arms. The husband attacked the man and drove him away while bystanders could be seen calling 911.

Police later identified the man as 19-year-old Anthony McGee and said he was involved with other violent crimes on the same day.

Investigators said that McGee allegedly assaulted a woman with a glass bottle before the kidnapping attempt.

After he ran off from the kidnapping attempt, he attacked another woman and broke the 82-year-old's arms. Police said that videos showed he choked her for more than a minute.

A woman who heard the attack from her unit at Hawthorne Apartments spoke to KMOV-TV about what she saw.

“I heard someone screaming, a woman screaming,” she said. “When I looked out the window, I saw the woman, and she was held and restrained by a man.”

She said police arrived and captured him as he tried to flee the scene.

Jim Whyte, who leads the Central West End Neighborhood Security Initiative, says that footage from the group's cameras in the area were being given to police to help in their investigation.

“We had some brief dealings with him on a previous incident. Our homeless outreach team has engaged this young man on a number of occasions trying to get him services because he appears to be homeless,” said Whyte.

McGee was charged with a slew of crimes, including first-degree assault, kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree assault and armed criminal action, third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, and resisting arrest.

The man had also been arrested by Clayton police for allegedly punching a female Washington University student two weeks prior to the recent incident. He was charged with a misdemeanor in that case and released.
