Houston man brutally assaults his pregnant girlfriend. Then, a relative of the woman shoots and kills him, reports say.

A man was shot and killed after assaulting a 20-year-old pregnant woman in Houston. The authorities said they received a call about the incident just before 1:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Oakwood Gardens Condominiums.

Officers said they heard gunshots when they arrived on the scene, per KHOU. When the police arrived, some went to the back of the complex, while others made their way to the front.

The initial findings in the investigation suggest that a man kicked down the door of his pregnant girlfriend's home and began assaulting her before leaving the area.

The man then made his way to the front of the complex. The woman and one of her relatives apparently engaged with the man when they made it to the front of the complex. And that is when the relative allegedly shot and killed the boyfriend as a result of the encounter.

The police arrested the relative without incident.

Houston Police Department Commander Mike Collins was asked whether this incident might have been in self-defense, but he noted that it is not clear. He went on to say that the possibility of self-defense is going to be part of the investigation.

"Our homicide division will, of course, come out and investigate the details," he said.

"But again, we cannot say with any great deal of certainty [at] this point [if it was in self-defense]. One of the witnesses on [the] scene—I didn't actually speak with her personally—but [she] mentioned that there was some type of weapon involved in the initial encounter. But again, all that's going to be part of the investigation."

The initial assault on the pregnant woman reportedly stemmed from an altercation, but no details have been made available about what led to the incident.

At the time of this report, no charges have been filed in the case.

Earlier this month, a Texas man came to the defense of an elderly patron at Woody's Smokehouse in Centreville. A man reportedly became aggressive and harassed several customers inside the restaurant.

The man, later revealed to be Kevin Craig Anderson, from Houston, eventually attacked an elderly patron in the restroom, beating him unconscious.

A man came to the elderly patron's aid, but Anderson knocked him to the ground. The good Samaritan had a license to carry, and he shot Anderson two times, according to the report. Anderson was shot in the right arm.

Though Anderson fled the restaurant, he was later found by police in his vehicle on the shoulder of a highway.
