Ilhan Omar claims a Jim Jordan speakership would mean 'more chaos in the house and electoral harm'

Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota highlighted an old quote in which former House Speaker John Boehner had described Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio as "a legislative terrorist."

"Jordan was a terrorist as a legislator going back to his days in the Ohio House and Senate," Boehner said, according to a years-old Politico magazine piece. "A terrorist. A legislative terrorist."

Omar shared Boehner's quote and then opined, "It should be interesting how things go after Republicans elect Jordan Speaker tomorrow. It would certainly bring more chaos in the house and electoral harm."

Last week, the House GOP voted 124-81 to nominate Jordan for the speakership, but in order to clinch the role in a full House vote, Jordan will need much more GOP support.

It took 15 rounds of balloting before Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) won the speakership earlier this year. He was ousted from the role of House speaker earlier this month, and so far, Republicans have failed to fill the slot.

"The role of a Speaker is to bring all Republicans together. That's what I intend to do," Jordan wrote in an Oct. 16 letter to colleagues. "We will make sure there are more Republican voices involved in our major decisions beyond the Five Families. Our goal will be to empower our committees and committee chairs to take the lead on the House's legislative work through regular order. This will bring us together to pass responsible legislation to fund our government and support our military. I will tirelessly work to defend and expand our majority and help every Republican member back at home."
