Sen. John Barrasso's wife dies after cancer battle

Bobbi Barrasso, the wife of GOP Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming, has died "after a two-year battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer," according to a press release.

"After a courageous battle with cancer, Bobbi is now at peace and at home with the Lord. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Bobbi was a leader, fierce advocate for Wyoming, and friend to everyone she met. We miss her dearly. On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for your prayers and continued support as we remember her and grieve together," Sen. Barrasso said in a statement.

Barrasso has been serving a U.S. senator since mid-2007. He is the Senate Republican Conference chair.

The senator and his wife had been married for a little more than 16 years. "The couple exchanged vows in a traditional ceremony at the Brown family church in Thermopolis on New Years Day," according to a 2008 press release.

"Bobbi Barrasso has been lighting up rooms with her infectious smile, natural warmth and generosity of spirit since we first met as teenagers at the University of Wyoming. I will miss her dearly. My prayers are with @SenJohnBarrasso and the entire Barrasso family at this time," GOP Sen. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming noted.

"Kelly and I are heartbroken to hear about the passing of Bobbi Barrasso. Behind every great man is a greater woman, and we know how much Bobbi meant to John. We're praying the Lord will comfort John and the Barrasso family as they grieve this immense loss," House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) noted.
