Witness drops bombshell testimony that tosses Navy SEAL war crime trial into disarray

Prosecutors are angry that the medic changed his story

The war crime trial for Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher saw a stunning development as one of the witnesses testified that he killed the ISIS fighter, potentially exonerating Gallagher.

The highly decorated 19-year SEAL veteran was accused of murdering a captured ISIS soldier, which would be a war crime, and then of threatening other SEALs who spoke out against him.

Special Operator First Class Corey Scott testified on Thursday that he, not Gallagher, killed the ISIS captive.

Scott said that after Gallagher stabbed the terror fighter and walked away, the medic cut off the supply to his breathing tube until he died.

"I knew he was going to die anyway," Scott said, "and wanted to save him from waking up to whatever would have happened to him."

Scott said that he had seen similarly captured ISIS fighters be tortured and murdered by Iraqi soldiers.

Prosecutors were upset, according to the New York Times, that the medic changed his story after receiving immunity.

"You can stand up there, and you can lie about how you killed the ISIS prisoner so Chief Gallagher does not have to go to jail," a Navy prosecutor told him.

"He's got a wife and family," Scott responded. "I don't think he should spend the rest of his life in prison."

SEALs said in their testimony that they confronted Gallagher about the stabbing of the teenage ISIS terrorist.

"This is just an ISIS dirt bag," was his response according to the testimony of one Navy SEAL. "Next time I'll do it where it will be out of sight, out of mind."

Prosecutors said that Scott could be charged with perjury for changing his testimony.
