Planned Parenthood prescribes autistic youth cross-sex hormones after 30-minute consult: Report

Planned Parenthood prescribed cross-sex hormones to an autistic youth after one brief, half-hour consultation, the Washington Free Beacon originally reported.

A profile piece from the Free Beacon shared the story of an 18-year-old high school student from New Jersey, referred to as Fred, who was prescribed estrogen after one consultation at Planned Parenthood. The young man’s parents asked the outlet that their son’s real name be withheld.

The parents told the Free Beacon that Fred was diagnosed with autism and battled depression and anxiety. Their son had been expelled from several special-needs schools due to behavioral problems caused in part by his disorder, the outlet reported.

Before Fred’s 18th birthday, he expressed a desire to identify as transgender and insisted on taking hormones. His parents attempted to enroll him in the Gender and Autism Program at Children’s National Hospital, the nation’s only gender clinic that specializes in autistic youth. However, due to a lengthy waitlist, Fred’s parents were informed in March that he would not have been able to get into the clinic for about a year.

Children’s National Hospital’s Gender and Autism Program requires youths to undergo a lengthy assessment before cross-sex hormones or surgeries are recommended.

In July, shortly after turning 18 years old, Fred decided he did not want to wait to get into the clinic’s program and instead visited Planned Parenthood while his parents were out of town, the Free Beacon reported.

Fred’s parents stated that he arrived at the clinic around 11:00 a.m., and by 11:39 a.m., they received an alert from CVS Pharmacy that his prescription was being filled. Because Fred was of age, he was not required to provide a letter from a therapist or a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, the outlet stated.

Fred’s mom, a New Jersey pediatrician, told the Free Beacon, “It’s criminal what Planned Parenthoods all over the country are doing.”

“And most people have no idea this is happening,” she added.

In July, Fred’s parents filed a complaint with the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners and the state’s Board of Nursing.

The parents noted that Fred “had no specialized psychological evaluation or therapy” and that no mental health professional had examined how his disorders could be impacting his gender identity issues.

“No mental health professional has made a formal diagnosis of gender dysphoria,” the parents wrote in the complaint.

They accused Planned Parenthood of providing Fred hormones without their consent, arguing that their 18-year-old child is considered an adolescent because of his neuro-developmental issues.

Planned Parenthood did not respond to requests for comment, the Free Beacon reported.
