Ex-Playboy model accepts plea deal in murder of her 71-year-old 'sugar daddy'

An ex-Playboy model is accused of being involved in the murder of a 71-year-old psychiatrist, who police said was helping her pay her bills. The former model has reportedly reached a plea deal despite maintaining her innocence in the violent crime.

California psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Burchard, 71, had been paying numerous bills of 29-year-old ex-Playboy model Kelsey Turner, according to court documents. Over the two-year relationship, Burchard gave Turner at least $300,000, according to Judy Earp – the girlfriend of the psychiatrist.

Some considered Burchard to be Turner's "sugar daddy," but Earp contends, "He was always helping people. Anybody with a sad story, you know. Some people took advantage of that."

In March 2019, Burchard drove to Turner's Las Vegas apartment – for which he had been paying the rent. Police say Burchard intended to break off the relationship and end the generous financial support to Turner's lifestyle during the visit.

On March 7, 2019, Burchard's bludgeoned body was found stuffed in the trunk of an abandoned car near Lake Mead outside Las Vegas. Investigators determined that Burchard died of blunt force trauma to the head, and his death was ruled a homicide.

The Mercedes-Benz C300 that Burchard's body was discovered in was owned by Turner.

Turner and her ex-boyfriend Jon "Logan" Kennison were suspected in the brutal death of Burchard. Turner, Kennison, and Diana Pena all lived together in the Las Vegas apartment. Pena – who pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder in 2019 – testified that she witnessed Kennison viciously beat Burchard to death with a baseball bat. Pena also testified that Turner urged Kennison to "knock Thomas out," according to court documents.

Turner and Kennison then ditched the body in the trunk of the Mercedes-Benz, according to police.

In June, Kennison pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder. He was sentenced to between 18 and 45 years in prison.

Turner has maintained that she is innocent in the murder of Burchard.

Fox News reported, "On a website called PrisonBelles.com for female inmates who seek correspondence while incarcerated, a profile purporting to be Turner's states that she is 'currently incarcerated in Las Vegas for a murder [she] did not commit.'"

However, Turner accepted a plea deal this week. Turner plead guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday in Clark County District Court. As part of the deal, other charges will be dismissed.

Turner – who previously appeared in Playboy Italia and Maxim – is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 23, 2023. She faces 10 to 25 years in prison for her role in the murder of Thomas Burchard.
