Rachel Morin was reportedly found naked with head 'smashed in,' boyfriend addresses rumors by saying he has 'changed as a person'

A mother of five who was found dead on a Maryland hiking trail was naked and had her head bashed in, according to one of the first people who found the battered body of Rachel Morin.

The 37-year-old had reportedly gone for a hike around 6 p.m. on Saturday and was reported missing to police at 11:23 p.m. by her boyfriend.

The body of Morin was found around 1:07 p.m. on Sunday on the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air, Maryland.

Before Morin was found, Michael Gabriszeski went on the search along with his stepdaughter Cecilia, who was a friend of the slain mother.

Gabriszeski said he found "disturbances" on the trail near two drainage tunnels.

Gabriszeski told WBFF, "When I saw the tunnels, I got chills."

Cecilia allegedly was the first to find Morin's body near the drainage tunnels.

Cecilia was purportedly hyperventilating after discovering the body, and police advised her to sit down.

"When she sat down, she realized she was sitting in a big pool of blood," Gabriszeski said.

"There was a 15- to 20-foot blood trail," Gabriszeski told the Daily Mail. "So, it looked like she had been beaten and dragged into that position." He added, "I saw a terrible mess."

"She was laying on her back, fully naked, and she had brutal head trauma. ... It looked like her head had been smashed in with a rock," Gabriszeski stated.

Cecilia allegedly saw a big rock near the body "that was all caked in blood.”

Gabriszeski claimed that the right side of Morin's face "was gone," and he believed the killer was "trying to erase her identity."

Another source told the Daily Mail that Morin had suffered serious head trauma and the injuries were so severe that there would not be an open-casket funeral.

Rachel's sister, Rebekah Morin, wrote that the murdered mother "did not go willingly" and did not die "accidentally" on a GoFundMe campaign for the family.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Department has not revealed how Morin died, but did say she was murdered.

Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said at a press conference on Wednesday, "I'm not going to go into what, physically, they observed at the scene. But investigators believe, sadly, that it’s a homicide case."

"There will be a time when I can share more," the sheriff said. "What I can tell you for sure is this was an intentional taking of a person’s life."

Gahler explained that a team of detectives, forensic investigators, and crime analysts have been "scouring every detail of the days, hours, minutes, and seconds before Rachel died in order to put together the pieces of a comprehensive timeline." The sheriff promised to solve the crime and "find the heinous coward who took Rachel Morin from her family and friends."

The sheriff noted the police department has received "more than 100 tips" from the public, including some that "have been promising."

Gahler said investigators have interviewed individuals in Rachel's "close inner circle," including her boyfriend.

The boyfriend, Richard Tobin, was the first person to report Morin missing, according to police.

Tobin responded to unfounded allegations and rumors that he was involved with Morin's death.

“I love Rachel, I would never do anything to her, let the family and I grieve. Yes I have a past but I also have 15 months clean and have changed as a person. Please,” Tobin wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

Fox News reported, "Tobin has prior arrests for malicious destruction of property, criminal second-degree assault, resisting arrest, drug possession, disorderly intoxication and violating restraining orders, according to Maryland court records."

Tobin went public with his relationship with Morin in a Facebook post on Aug. 1.

Police are asking that anyone with video from the hiking trail from last weekend or who has information about the apparent murder case to contact the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
