Republicans blast Biden as new CPI report reflects rising prices

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released a new consumer price index report that reflects the ongoing problem of rising prices that have been squeezing Americans financially.

"The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent in December on a seasonally adjusted basis, after rising 0.1 percent in November," the BLS noted. "Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 3.4 percent before seasonal adjustment."

"The all items less food and energy index rose 3.9 percent over the last 12 months," the report stated. "The energy index decreased 2.0 percent for the 12 months ending December, while the food index increased 2.7 percent over the last year."

Republicans responded to the news by pointing the finger at President Joe Biden.

"President Biden's inflation crisis continues to rob the wallets of working families," GOP Rep. Jason Smith of Missouri said in a statement. "Parents are spending thousands more every year just to feed, house, and take care of their children. Americans know that when Democrats took over Washington and began spending trillions is exactly when life became increasingly unaffordable."

"Once again, inflation is on the rise under Joe Biden. Bidenomics = Americans paying more for goods," Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee tweeted.

GOP Sen. Rick Scott of Florida noted America's ever-increasing national debt, which has surpassed $34 trillion.

"The U.S. national debt has officially reached a record high of more than $34 TRILLION. Debt matters because it fuels inflation and makes it harder for the federal government to do the things it promised to do for families across the country– like build roads and fund Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and national defense," Scott said in a statement.

"Floridians know that the debt and inflation crises we find ourselves in today were 100% preventable—and they can feel it costing them thousands of dollars per year. But unfortunately, thanks to the Biden administration's reckless tax-and-spend agenda, hardworking families are forced to pick up the bill," Scott asserted.
