Unruly migrants at Randall's Island shelter attack NYPD officers attempting to make an arrest: Video

A mob of unruly illegal migrants at a New York City migrant shelter attacked New York Police Department officers who were attempting to make an arrest on Thursday, according to video of the assault shared on social media.

The footage captured several NYPD officers struggling to handcuff one individual who, according to the New York Post, was not supposed to be at the facility. The male suspect was reportedly asked by officials to leave the premises but refused. The two-minute video showed the suspect resisting arrest as police officers and shelter security staff attempted to keep the mob of disorderly adult male migrants under control.

Many angry onlookers hurled various objects, including backpacks and bottles, at the officers while other migrants furiously shouted. At one point, a female officer was struck in the head by a backpack, the video showed. The same female officer later ducked and narrowly avoided being hit by a second bag.

The suspect was ultimately carried out of the facility by several law enforcement officers guarded by the shelter's security staff.

The Post reported that it is unclear what led up to the chaotic scene. The NYPD stated that no one was hospitalized as a result of the incident.

Randall's Island began housing illegal migrants in August. Last month, a 24-year-old migrant was fatally stabbed at the shelter during an attack involving four other asylum-seekers.

Progressive Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced in late January that three men — Moises Coronado, 27; Ferneys Horta, 33; and Anthony Navas, 27 — were charged with first-degree manslaughter and gang assault for their alleged involvement in the murder, WNBC reported.

"As alleged, Dafren Canizalez was brutally killed in an attack by a group, who trapped and chased him until he collapsed," Bragg stated. "Everyone who comes into our city deserves to be safe, and we will continue to hold those who commit serious acts of violence accountable."

Migrants residing at the makeshift shelter told the Post in January that some asylum-seekers have split into "camps" based on their ethnicity.

One migrant told the Post, "Everyone has a knife."

"There is a lot of stealing," another migrant claimed. "If you put your phone down or your charger for a moment, they take it immediately. Any of your stuff that you don't have they will take. … There is definitely camps."

United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials recently stated that at least two of the illegal migrants believed to be involved in a January mob attack against two NYPD officers are members of the Venezuelan street gang Tren de Aragua, Blaze News reported. The two men — Wilson Juarez, 21, and Kelvin Servita-Arocha, 19 — were accused of assaulting a pair of police officers in Times Square.
