Political thriller novelist, non-fiction writer, TV show creator and comic book author Brad Meltzer stops by "The Jeff Fisher Show" to discuss the many projects he's currently working on, including a line of children's books meant to introduce kids to notable, inspirational figures from history.
Brad set out to counteract the stream of shallow celebrity worship and glorification of morally bankrupt stars by providing wholesome, worthwhile heroes children can aspire to emulate. His latest book, entitled "I am Jim Henson," chronicles the life of the beloved "Muppets" creator and puppeteer.
"The goal is to help you build a library of real heroes for your kids and your grandkids and your nieces and your nephews," Brad explains. "And for me, Jim Henson, you know, stands for something that we need right now in the country, right? Jim Henson and 'The Muppets' and 'Sesame Street,' it's the idea that, you know, it stands for goodness and kindness and believing and creating and pretending. And to me, these are ideas that should never get old. I will never apologize for being a do-gooder."
Brad then announces a free service he's providing through independent bookstore "Books & Books" in Coral Gables, Florida. Customers who order Brad's books through this retailer will be able to request a personalized message to their child, which Brad will personally inscribe in the book before shipping it straight to the customer's door.
