How Jordan Peterson created an antidote to the WEF

Jordan Peterson has proven himself to be a wealth of great ideas, and the upcoming Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference in London is no exception.

The CEO of ARC, Baroness Philippa Stroud, knows this well.

“ARC is really a movement of people who are basically saying that we’ve had enough of a declinist perma-crisis, poly crisis type way of thinking,” Stroud tells Dave Rubin before explaining that she had invited Peterson to come and do a talk at a think tank she led in London.

“The whole time we were focused on freedom of speech and higher education and how we restored freedom of speech and academic freedom back to our universities,” Stroud says.

While Peterson left and went on his way to do a tour around Eastern Europe, he had not forgotten about ARC as being able to provide a possible antidote to the WEF.

“Halfway through that tour he rang me and he said, ‘Philippa, everywhere I go there are people, fantastic leaders, but they’re so isolated and they’re doing amazing work. What would happen if we brought them all together to do a conference in London?’” Stroud recalls.

Since Peterson came up with the idea, the momentum behind the conference has been unstoppable.

“It kind of just snowballed from there,” she adds.

One of the ways ARC seeks to help society grow is to develop a better narrative for it, in the form of stories — which aligns seamlessly with Peterson’s idea that stories are incredibly important as an addition to policy.

Rubin wonders if Stroud finds it odd that the West, which is made up of excellent literature and film, hasn’t told a story “to defend ourselves.”

“Our story’s got so fragmented,” Stroud agrees, which is why the conference will focus on “what we can draw from our history, what is the narrative, the story that can unite us as we go forward.”
