Is Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam Next in Line of Occupy Supporters?

Given the movement's long list of dubious supporters, it's not hard to believe.

Well, with the current line-up of far-left and pro-Islamic groups supporting Occupy Wall Street, it was only a matter of time before allegations started flying that renown anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam was joining the fray.

ABC reports that on Saturday, Woodruff Park in Atlanta is slated to morph into a battlefield of principles as Occupy Atlanta protesters attempt to reclaim their encampments. In the days leading up to Saturday's effort, online reports have emerged claiming that OA has requested the help of none other than the Nation of Islam. Occupiers, however, deny the claims.

“We have not asked the Nation of Islam to provide protection for us,” Tim Franzen, spokesman for OA, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

But ABC reports:

Rumors of the collaboration began from within the “Occupy Atlanta” camp. In one such report by the Midtown Patch, movement representative Mandie Mitchell is credited directly with providing the information.

“I think that will make a huge difference,” protester David Smith added to the Midtown Patch on the matter.

Occupiers now claim that if NOI members do attend Saturday's efforts, it will be of their own accord.

“If they show up it’s because they chose to be there, not because we invited them,” said Franzen.

Given Occupy protesters' track-record of anti-Semitism and the Council for Islamic Relations' participation in the movement, it is not difficult to imagine the Nation of Islam is the latest in a long-line of controversial supporters.
