Biden admin has failed to remove 99% of illegal immigrants released into the US since 2021: Report

The Biden administration has allowed more than 99% of illegal immigrants to remain in the United States since 2021, according to a Monday report from House Republicans.

The House Committee on the Judiciary and Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement released a report this week revealing that the Biden administration has removed less than 6,000 illegal aliens who were placed into removal proceedings since 2021.

"Between January 20, 2021, and March 31, 2023, the Biden Administration has removed from the United States only 5,993 illegal aliens who were encountered at the southwest border and who were placed in removal proceedings before an immigration judge during that time. In other words, of the at least 2.1 million aliens released into the United States since January 20, 2021, the Biden Administration has failed to remove, through immigration court removal proceedings, roughly 99.7 percent of those illegal aliens," the report stated.

"The Biden Border Crisis: New Data and Testimony Show How the Biden Administration Opened the Southwest Border and Abandoned Interior Enforcement" report, initiated by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and Immigration Subcommittee Chairman Tom McClintock, dispelled Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' claim that the U.S.-Mexico border is closed and that illegal immigrants are "quickly" expelled.

"Instead, with more than 99 percent of illegal aliens staying inside the United States after being released by the Biden Administration, there is virtually no enforcement of our immigration laws," the report read.

It noted that there were more than 5 million illegal alien encounters at the southern border from January 2021 through March 2023. Additionally, at least 2,464,424 of those individuals "had no confirmed departure" from the country as of March.

"Of the illegal aliens encountered in those 26 months, DHS released at least 2,148,738 illegal aliens into the United States," the report added. Moreover, only 6% of migrants who entered the country claiming asylum were screened for a fear of persecution.

According to House Republicans, under the Biden administration, there is "virtually no enforcement of our immigration laws."

The report explained that the overwhelming crisis at the southern border is preventing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers from making arrests and removing illegal aliens. ICE officials have reported that "releases have increased" while "removals have decreased" under the Biden administration.

The report added, "The Committee and Subcommittee will continue to conduct oversight of the Biden Administration's radical, open-borders immigration policies. This interim staff report highlights the failures of President Biden's immigration agenda and helps to inform the House on legislative reforms to secure the border, reform immigration law, and end the far left's policy incentives driving the crisis at the border."
