Viewers of the progressive news cable channel MSNBC melted down on social media Tuesday after anchor Chuck Todd said that President Joe Biden didn't have a "loyal fanbase."
Social media erupted with anger and frustration when Todd made the comments on his show "Meet the Press Daily" ahead of Biden's first State of the Union speech in Congress.
"Chuck is an uninformed idiot. Just because 81 million of us don’t wear T-shirts, wrap up our cars in banners, and build golden idols, doesn’t mean we aren’t out there," replied one angry Twitter user.
"Chuck Todd decides to act like an a**hole today by saying President Biden has no fan base. I have his back raise your hand if you have his back," read one popular tweet.
"Since when do politicians have 'fanbases'? They're cultists, Chuck Todd, you f***ing moron," read another very popular tweet.
"Hey, Chuck, are you assuming Biden doesn't have a loyal fan base because we haven't stormed the Capitol, vandalized the building, and assaulted police officers? Let me explain something to you. We're the good guys," said another detractor.
"Chuck Todd’s definition of loyal fan base is a bunch of sweaty gun nuts carrying a Trump or confederate flag yelling obscenities into a camera because they are angry that black and brown people are allowed to exist," read another tweet.
Todd is frequently a target of liberal ire for his comments on MSNBC, and many have called for him to be fired and replaced by more liberal hosts.
In one instance from November, Todd said that passing a massive social spending bill was going to be damaging to Democrats in 2022. In another instance from July 2020, many on the left tossed expletive-filled tweets at Todd for offering minor praise for then-President Donald Trump.
