High school French teacher under investigation over viral video of 'hate speech' against food vendor in California

A high school French teacher is under investigation after a viral video showed him yelling at a food vendor and calling him an illegal alien at a gas station in California.

Video of the altercation was posted to TikTok where it garnered more than 2 million views.

The video from Santa Clarita shows the man yelling angrily at a food vendor and calling him an illegal alien. At one point he says that he hates illegal aliens.

"Get the f*** out of here, illegal!" he yells.

Bystanders in the video appear to defend the vendor and the man yells at them as well. The vendor told KCAL-TV that the man was upset that he had set up his cart at the gas station.

The man was later identified as Gnel Frankian, a French teacher at Moorpark High School. The district sent out an email to parents about the incident.

"Officials are aware of a disturbing video that shows a teacher from Moorpark High School involved in a verbal altercation at a gas station in Los Angeles County," read the statement. "MUSD officials are taking swift and appropriate action by following our procedures and fully investigating this matter."

The statement went on to indicate that Frankian's status was "pending" as the investigation continued. School officials also said that the teacher has not returned to campus.

"We want to reiterate that any form of hate speech does not align with our core beliefs and is not a reflection of our district or our culture at Moorpark High School. Racist, antisemitic or other hate speech/behavior will not be tolerated at MUSD," the official statement added.

One student told KCAL that people at the school were shocked by the video and that the teacher should not be allowed to return to teach there.

The district said that they will provide counseling for any students who were negatively affected by the viral video.
