Terrifying video shows motorist on knees with hands up as masked robbers who crashed into his luxury car on LA freeway ransack wrecked vehicle, make getaway
October 26, 2023
A terrifying pair of videos show a motorist on his knees with his hands up as masked robbers who crashed into his luxury car on a Los Angeles freeway Tuesday ransacked the wrecked vehicle and then made a getaway.
What are the details?
The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Interstate 10 in south Los Angeles and is being investigated as a vehicular assault with robbery, KABC-TV reported, citing a California Highway Patrol spokesperson.
Police told the station the driver of a black Dodge Caravan "intentionally crashed" into a black Alfa Romeo sedan on the eastbound 10 Freeway near Arlington Avenue.
A driver or passenger in a passing vehicle recorded video that shows at least four masked individuals wearing dark clothing and hooded sweatshirts exiting a minivan and running toward a wrecked, smoking car on the right shoulder, KABC said.
The driver of the wrecked car is seen kneeling with both hands in the air, the station said, adding that robbers appear to ransack the victim's car.

KABC said another man standing nearby appeared to record the crime on his cell phone as well. The following appears to be that video:
KABC spoke to the man who stood nearby and appeared to record the crime on video; he didn't want to show his face on camera.
"It seems like they knew what he had in his car..." the witness told the station. "I felt really bad for him. I thought it was over for him, but he did the right thing. He put his hands up, let them take what they took, and that's the safest way he could've done it."

The witness told KABC it seemed like something out of a Hollywood movie but added that "it was as real as it gets. Because that's how it is in Los Angeles."
Anything else?
Police told the station the suspects, who were armed with a hammer and crowbar, fled in a white Chevrolet Malibu and were last seen eastbound on Interstate 10; they remain at large.
No injuries were reported, police told KABC, adding that a Ford Mustang also was struck during the incident.
The station added that it's not known at this point in the investigation what was stolen or if there's a connection between the suspects and the victim.
