Just a big game to Russia': Moscow responds to chemical attack in UK with 'sarcasm and contempt

British Prime Minister Theresa May announced Wednesday, that the U.K. will expel 23 Russian diplomats in response to Moscow’s failure to provide an explanation for the poisoning of ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, with “a military-grade nerve agent of a type developed by Russia.”

Naturally, the Putin administration denied any involvement in the poisoning, prompting May’s retaliatory range of responses, including the single biggest expulsion of Russian diplomats from Britain since the Cold War.

"They have treated the use of a military-grade nerve agent in Europe with sarcasm, contempt and defiance," said May in parliament on Wednesday. "There is no alternative conclusion other than that the Russian state was culpable for the attempted murder of Mr Skripal and his daughter and for threatening the lives of other British citizens in Salisbury."

The Russians didn't seem particularly concerned:

Glenn's take:

"Everything is just a big game to Russia. They're running around doing whatever they want because, quite honestly, who's going to stop them? With everything from Russian interference in our election, to now assassination attempts on foreign soil, Putin's plan is 'just do it,'" Glenn said. "They're just going to keep denying any kind of culpability, and sooner or later the incident will blow over in the West, as they usually do, and he gets scolded, maybe a few sanctions, and he moves on."

"The end goal for Russia, is to weaken the West through chaos," added Glenn, "The current Russian strategy is a hybrid of tactics that worked for them during the Cold War, and the tactics that we used to collapse them, all infused with information technology."
