Watch: Congress’ pharmacist implied some lawmakers have Alzheimer’s – now he’s backtracking

What happened?

Mike Kim, owner of the pharmacy that delivers prescription medications to members of Congress on Capitol Hill every day, seemed to let some big secrets slip during an interview with Stat News on Wednesday about his job.

Give me the exact quote:

“At first it’s cool, and then you realize, I’m filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country.

“It makes you kind of sit back and say, ‘Wow, they’re making the highest laws of the land and they might not even remember what happened yesterday.’”

This doesn’t look so great.

Right. And it’s raising some big questions like “do Americans have the right to know when their lawmakers’ memories are slipping?”

Kim is attempting to take charge of the story with a follow-up quote, saying, “I am not aware of any member that actually has Alzheimer’s and would certainly not disclose any such information if I did know... patient privacy is a very serious matter that I am committed to upholding."
